Online Team member and avid sewist of dresses Charlotte picked the Matilda Dress from Cool Stitches for the blog this week. Matilda is a breezy maxi dress pattern, simple to adjust and easy to layer, a dream for lightweight Liberty Tana Lawn cottons. Read on for photos and project details!
Cool Stitches is a knitting and sewing brand created by Nicole from Portugal. Most of Nicole's sewing patterns are offered on a pay-what-you-can basis, which we love! The Matilda Dress pattern features an empire line with optional gathering detail, centre back zip closure and in seam pockets. This is such a simple pattern to adjust to your height preference, and Charlotte removed 20cm from the hemline of her version. The pattern offers sizes 0 - 30, and Charlotte is wearing a size 18.
Charlotte recommends this pattern for a beginner with a little experience, and said it would be best suited for light to medium-weight woven fabric styles like Liberty Tana Lawn. She picked Liberty Tana Lawn - Tempo / A, a cute geometric print with a subtle vintage vibe.
Liberty's Tana Lawn cotton is a fabric perfected into a modern masterpiece of production through a bespoke process that has evolved over a century. Printed in the Liberty printing mill, located between Milan and Lake Como in northern Italy, Tana realises unmatchable fluidity with a silk-like touch, unique print quality and striking colour vibrancy. Machine washable and durable enough for daily wear, it can be used to create everything from simple separates to spectacular statement pieces. The perfect fabric for all manner of projects including childrenswear, shirts, summer dresses, pyjamas, and to add some flair as a trim or lining option!
If you love Charlotte's Liberty look as much as we do, you'll find loads of special Liberty prints in stores and online.
