Pattern Reviews — Jada Ballet Knit Wrap Top

We love the wardrobe versatility of a cute wrap top, the type of garment that can be paired with everything from slip dresses to jeans, day to night! With a selection of our merino/nylon jersey fabrics on sale at the moment, we thought it would be the perfect time to review Jada by Isa In Stitches. There are loads of customised versions of this pattern over on Instagram, so if you are planning to make one, head over and get inspired! Read on for our review, kindly modelled by Olivia from our HQ team.

Isa In Stitches — Jada Ballet Knit Wrap Top

Jada is a wrap style top pattern made by Paris-based YouTuber and pattern maker Isa In Stitches. Designed for jersey fabrics, the pattern can be made with long or short sleeves and is easy to customise in length. We made up the short sleeved version with a double layered front in a size 8 (EU 38) for Olivia. This used 1.4m of our Nylon Merino Blend Jersey in Plum Marle. This pattern is a little different from others we've reviewed, in that the instructions are super basic and text only (no illustrations). Visual guides can be found in the form of YouTube tutorial videos here, which we watched first before starting the project. This step is really important, as the pattern is intended for beginner sewists, who may get a little stuck without illustrations. The PDF pattern comes with a lay plan – however we noted a couple of inaccuracies, just minor things such as the tie grain-line sitting opposite on the pattern to the lay plan. The video recommended fusing the neckline, but we chose to use mobilon instead for stabilisation. Overall we found this pattern a fun sew, and we love the simplicity of the wrap style!

Olivia paired the Jada Top with our Make by TFS May Jean (Straight Leg) and we're loving the casual feel!

Fabric Recommendations

Isa In Stitches recommend light-midweight jersey fabrics for the Jada pattern, and merino fits the bill nicely! Several juicy colours feature in the range, check out a few of the options below. From top to bottom is Merino / Nylon Jersey - Wisteria Marle, Merino / Nylon Jersey - Plum Marle, Merino / Nylon Jersey - Zinc Marle, Merino / Nylon Jersey - Tomato, Merino / Nylon Jersey - Spearmint and Merino / Nylon Jersey - Eucalyptus.

If you're a beginner sewist and want to try this pattern out, we'd highly recommend watching the YouTube video before you begin.
