Pattern Reviews — Lysimaque — Pâquerette Blouse

Lysimaque was founded by french sewist, Floriane, in 2018. Floriane learned to sew in the South of France to the song of the cicadas, taught by her grandmother, Neva who was a seamstress by trade. After a post on Instagram of a self-drafted cross-back top (now called the Bleuet) was so well received she decided to put her skills to the test and turn it into a downloadable pattern. She now has over 30 patterns available on Etsy and her own site. The Pâquerette Blouse's statement collar and floaty silhouette caught our eye, we just knew it would look delightful in one of our new Liberty Tana Lawn cotton prints. Read on for our review, very kindly modelled by Olivia from our HQ team!

Pattern Review

Lysimaque — Pâquerette Blouse

The Pâquerette Blouse is described beautifully by Floriane of Lysimaque as 'romantic with a 70's spirit'. The type of blouse that pairs splendidly with a cute print (hello Liberty!), and is both elegant in detail and generous in fit, whilst still being simple to wear. We made up a size 38 for Olivia from our HQ team, and the fit was perfect! Our Liberty Tana Lawn - Willow Rose A was a dream to sew and the blouse took the recommended 1.7m, plus a small piece of Fusible Interfacing - Stretch Weft / White for the square neckline facing.

The instruction manual was nicely put together, with clear sewing steps and playfully sketched illustrations. Such a colourful print made the pattern a joy to assemble too!

We thought the intermediate skill level was appropriate for this project - the steps of sewing the sleeve and attaching the square facing making it slightly more complicated than a beginner level sew.

This would be a simple pattern to modify, instead of having a facing you could try add a binding to the neckline or optional lace / ribbon onto the edging. We're dreaming of making this into a dress by lengthening the bodice. How cute would it be made up in a gingham, bright linen or a fun liberty print for summer?!

Fabric Recommendations

Liberty Tana Lawn - Willow Rose A

Oh how we love Liberty Tana Lawn! Not only is it a fantastic quality Italian-made fabric with OEKO-Tex Standard 100 certification, it's also a dream to sew with. Tana Lawn cotton's distinctive handle and translucent softness make it perfect for tops, blouses, dresses, shirts, even ultra-light shorts and pants.

All of our stores (including our Online Store) have a unique range of Liberty Tana Lawn cottons, check out some suggestions below. From top to bottom is Liberty Tana Lawn - Mistral / C, Liberty Tana Lawn - Glenjade / F, Liberty Tana Lawn - Willow Rose / A and Liberty Tana Lawn - Mosaic / B.

We'd highly recommend trying the Pâquerette Blouse if you're looking for a new trans-seasonal make. We're inching closer to springtime here in the southern hemisphere and cute prints are firmly on our radar. We realised after we'd made our blouse that Pâquerette is French for 'daisy', delightful! We'd love to see what you're working on, use #TheFabricStore over on Instagram and TikTok, we're following along!
