We’ve received a range of new corduroy fabrics in stores and online recently, including three cute jumbo styles, classic colours and even a new drop of Liberty Rossmore and Kingly cord prints! This week on the blog, we’ve picked the classic suit-style Terra Pant from Pattern Fantastique to review, featuring our beautiful Dark Fern Corduroy and kindly worn by Ella from our HQ team.
Pattern Review
Terra Pant from Pattern Fantastique
The Terra Pant has some seriously cool suiting vibes! The pattern offers two versions – a high waisted option and a mid-rise waist option. We picked the high waist for Ella and love the fit! The deep front tucks and side pockets give the pant its unique sculptural volume, which is particularly notable when made up in a sturdy fabric like corduroy. Ella is 172cm tall and is wearing a size 8 which fits her perfectly. We added 8cm to the leg hem and choose patch pockets for the back, which balance the high waist perfectly! Pattern Fantastique have also provided welt pockets for the back, for a more minimal finish if required. They recommend this pattern would suit an Intermediate – Advanced sewist, which we would agree with as you’ll need to sew two different pocket styles, a waistband as well as a zip fly front. The instructions are well thought out and we would suggest reading them through before beginning!
The Terra Pant pattern is available to purchase as a print-at-home PDF download or printed pattern from the Pattern Fantastique website.
You may have noticed the cute tee Ella is wearing with her Terra Pants! We whipped this handy staple up in our Premium 195gsm Merino – Mushroom, using the Unisex T-Shirt pattern from The School of Making.
Fabric Recommendations
Stretch Cotton Corduroy – Dark Fern + Liberty Lantana – Annabel / B
Pattern Fantastique recommend a wide range of fabric types for the Terra Pant, everything from wool suiting and denim, mid to heavyweight cotton and heavyweight linen, to velvet and corduroy. The fabric you choose really depends on the look you want – for a structured fit, we suggest picking sturdy fabrics like corduroy and denim. For a softer look, choose a fabric with a little more drape, such as a wool suiting or a heavyweight linen. To add a little detail, you could also choose to contrast your pocket linings like we did! We used our cosy Liberty Lantana – Annabel / B.
Clockwise from left to right – 11 oz Denim – Indigo, Heavyweight Linen – Mustard, Heavyweight Basketweave – Navy / Flax, Stretch Cotton Corduroy – Camel and Jumbo Cotton Cord – Camel
If you’re on the hunt for a unique pair of pants to add to your #memade wardrobe, you’ll love the Terra! The pocket and pleat details add a super cute touch and the lightly cropped length balances out fullness in the leg.
